The Dream House Family for Keeps™ Transition Care Program - Advanced training offers five different one day workshops addressing health care needs of a medically fragile child that require more advanced skills. These are available to anyone who has successfully completed either the Basic or Professional education and skills training courses.

Caring for Child with Diabetes

  • Types of Diabetes
  • Necessary home care, including diet, record keeping, skin care
  • Prevention, recognition and treating complications
  • Hands on practice of glucose monitoring and insulin injections

Caring for a Child with a GI Condition

  • Types of disorders, including GER, IBD, esophageal atresia and failure to thrive
  • Hands on practice the care of feeding tubes (G-tubes), feeding pumps, feeding techniques
  • Emergency treatment for choking

Caring for a Child with an Ostomy

  • Types of ostomies
  • Care of ostomies, including dietary considerations and skin care
  • Hands on practice of  proper pouching, pouch changes, and types of available supplies

Caring for a Child with a Respiratory Condition

  • Respiratory illnesses, such as asthma, apnea, Cystic Fibrosis and BPD
  • Hands on practice administering oxygen, using equipment such as nebulizers and monitors
  • Overview of SIDS prevention

Caring for a Child with a Tracheostomy (Pre-requisite: Respiratory Condition course)

  • Principles of a tracheostomy
  • Hands on practice of trach care, suctioning, emergency procedures
  • Introduction to respirators

CPR & Pediatric first Aid
American Heart Association CPR training for Adult/Infant/Child, including use of an AED, as well as pediatric first aid.
