We do! Dream House is a 501(c)3 non-profit children's charity. We teach families and communities how to help kids with complex health issues thrive in a home setting instead of being institutionalized for life.  We rely solely on private donations.

Biological, adoptive or foster families, caring for a medically fragile child or children, are elibigle for assistance via the Dream House Family for Keeps™ - Bridging the Gap Program. The child(ren) must be newborn to 19 years old, live in Georgia, and have a diagnosis consistent with the definition of medically fragile.

The home modifications, durable medical equipment, therapies and other health care supplies that insurance doesn't cover are still unquestionably necessary for a medically fragile child to live safely at home with their family. What happens when the resources dry up and this family has no where else to turn?

Dream House Family for Keeps™ – Bridging the Gap Program helps obtain equipment and home modifications to provide safe and accessible homes for medically fragile children throughout Georgia - so they can actually live the quality life they deserve in a home setting! Your donation will help meet needs as they arise. We receive calls daily requesting help to fund these items:

  • $1,000 will fund an assistive device needed for daily care (bath chair, feeder seat, specialized car seat)
  • $3,500 will fund a specialized mattress or positioning device
  • $5,000 will fund a handicap access ramp to the front door
  • $5,000 will fund bathroom accessibility equipment
  • $7,500 will fund an overhead lift system or stair/chair lift
  • $10,000 will fund a bathroom modification
  • $15,000 will fund a lift for a van
  • $35,000 will purchase a used van with a lift

Dream House accepts financial donations (in whole or part) to help fund active cases. Because the need is unique to a child's diagnosis and recommendations from the multidisciplinary clinical team, financial gifts enable Dream House work as a liaison to help families source the best solution to their medically fragile child's need.

Thank you so very much for helping prepare a home for these children!

Bridging the Gap is solely funded by private donations and foundation grants.

As of June 5, 2008 Dream House has 15 medically fragile children seeking funding, with requests totaling more than $61,580. Please review some of these needs below. Would you help fund current cases so we can bring other children into the program?

Dream House sincerely thanks Sawnee EMC Operation Round Up® for funding the needs of two medically fragile children in their service area.

An additional 21 medically fragile children are on the Bridging the Gap Program waiting list. We take calls every day from desperate families. Ask how you can help.

Dear Dream House,

I wanted to tell you thank you so much for helping with your generous donation for Sophie Grace. Your donation will allow Sophie to get a mouth stick and still receive occupational and physical therapy.

Sophie was born with a rare condition called Arthrogryposis. Her diagnosis was very bleak as the doctors said she would be still born or not live very long. The night she was born, the odds were already stacked against her. She was three months early, not breathing, and could not move without extreme pain. The doctors said she would not make it through the night.

I would like to fast forward to today. Sophie is a vibrant three-year-old toddler who has proven all her doctors wrong. She cannot move her arms or legs, but nothing stops her. She crawls using her head to pull her and her knees to scoot around. She rolls to anything she wants. She paints, draws and colors with her mouth and toes. She has a vocabulary of a five-year-old. She is also counting in Spanish and German.

Sophie is such a fighter and an inspiration to anyone who has met her. I cannot thank you enough for your donation. I hope one day you can meet Sophie and see what an amazing child she is.

Sincerely, Amy (mother)
